Poor ‘Ead.

As a kitten, he was somebody’s snuggly baby, but something went wrong. He didn’t get altered, went out looking for a mate, and ended up finding a lot of trouble.

Do you remember the Simon and Garfunkle song, “The Boxer?”

Poor Big ‘Ead. That’s his song.

When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy, In the company of strangers, In the quiet of the railway station, runnin scared…

In ‘Ead’s case, it was the quiet of the hedgerow of a local motel. He crouched in the bushes, waiting for dark, when he could climb into the dumpster of the McDonald’s across the parking lot, or he could roam the parking lot of the nearby apartments, where people let their unaltered cats out, and ‘Ead fought for his right to mate.

And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him til he cried out in his anger and his shame…

‘Ead’s ears are torn, his head is scarred and bowed, his eyelids are lowered from the puffiness in his face. His teeth are broken or missing.

Worn as he is, ‘Ead is off the streets and onto a sofa, but it’s not his own sofa, it’s not in his own home, and oh, he longs for a home of his own. He’s a big, worn old boy with licorice fur, and he’s just a big snuggle bear now, looking for a warm lap, a loving home, and someone to say, “I will love you forever.”

‘Ead knows a loving hand. His foster family loves and cares for him. But it’s not his forever home. ‘Ead looks at each potential adopter who wanders through his foster home, looking for kitties. “Are you the one?” He eagerly crawls into each lap and lays his big, scarred head on an arm and gazes lovingly into the new set of eyes. “Is it you?”

‘Ead’s worn look, his black fur, and the diagnosis of FIV has kept many from adopting a loving, snuggly, gentle little man. It’s hard to look past the exterior, into his huge, warm heart.

But ‘Ead is still looking, hope is still in his heart, and we, his foster family, keep reminding him, “There’s someone out there for you.”

Is that special someone you? Are you the one to gather up this former boxer and cuddle him in your arms and look into his eyes and say, “I will love you forever.”

His adoption fee is $125, a fee that allows Happy Cat Adoptions to fill ‘Ead’s place in the foster home with another needy cat.
