Description: The only word for Dusty is charismatic! Everyone that meets him, loves him. He has been passed through a lot of hands. First he was turned in to a local animal control as a stray. One of the staffers felt he was so personable, he HAD to have a chance, and she put out a message to local rescues.
Happy Cat Adoptions stepped up. A friend from another group drove to the AC to pick him up from Death Row, and she fell in love with him. And another rescuer transferred him from there to his new foster. She and her children fell in love with him. He is staying in a temporary foster home until Happy Cat Adoptions can find a more permanent foster. And THEY love him.
This is one of the most charming boys you can meet. And he's very unusual looking. He was injured at one point in his life--he's an adult now, at rescue. One of his right toes is slightly larger than the others. And the most telling feature about him is his right ear--it's folded down reminescent of a Scottish fold--only not so dramatic of a fold. It gives him a certain debonair air.
Dusty's coat varies in length from long haired to medium length. His tail is fluffy, and he's got a beautiful coloration overall.
He's gentle and friendly and outgoing. He DOES have a mind of his own and is muscular, so needs at least one adult in his forever home who can hold onto him when trimming toenails and grooming him.
Dusty is FIV positive--it's not a death sentence, and it certainly isn't the fearful disease we often think of when we think of cat diseases. Dusty can certainly live a long and happy life.
About FIV: Feline immune defieciency virus is transmitted primarily by a positive cat who delivers a deep puncture wound to a negative cat. This is not the type of bite that cats deliver when playing hard or when angry with their friends. Dusty is asymptomatic, and can live as long as a negative cat, and possibly without symptoms. This stage can be treated with supplements, and there are two terrific Yahoo news lists which offer for FIV cat owners current information and support. If you're confused about FIV or want more information, please contact us and we'll be glad to send you information or talk to you. Many cat owners of FIV+ cats keep them with their negative cats. Since the transmission usually happens when males are either fighting over females or when mating (the deep wound from the male to the female), cats which have been altered generally do not deliver this wound.
If you're a family who wants a personable, charming, loving cat who can be trusted with children and who will impress all of your guests, this is the boy for you.
