It takes money!

Houston's homeless cats are burgeoning beyond imagination. Shelters are putting 300-500 cats and kittens to death a day per shelter. Happy Cat Adoptions is a tiny dent in that number, but like the story of the little girl and the starfish, it makes a difference to each of the cats who are saved and sent off to a happy home.

Not everyone can foster. Not everyone wants more than a few cats. But there are other ways to help. We need donations. It costs us on the average about the same for basic veterinarian care as we charge for an adoption fee. Cats who come in needing more than basic medical care (broken limbs, ill, other problems), break our budget, but we take them in nonetheless, reaching into our own pockets. Adoption fees do not finance our efforts.

The way we keep going is to pay many or most of the bills ourselves, or by donations from kind people like you, who care about animals and want to do something to help. We need money, and we need some items.

Here are some of our costs:

• Tests to determine FIV/FeLV status: $30 per cat
• Merial PureVax Rabies shot: $20 per cat
• FVRCP vaccinations (2): $15 each
• Spay: $72.50
• Neuter: $52.50 
• Microchip: $20.00
• Flea treatment: $2.50 a month
• Basic deworming: $4 per cat
• Tapeworm treatment: $4 per cat

• Cages ("condo" type cat cages): $120 each
• Top/Front loading carriers for feral cat transport: $30 each
• Roccal disinfectant: $90 plus shipping per gallon
• Bleach
• Cat beds: $6 each plus shipping
• Cave type cat beds for shy cats: $26 plus shipping
• Fleece
